this was an activity I did with some year tens the other day.
You have the ability to right wrongs and change the UK by making up some new laws.
What would they be?
For the record, 14-15 year old Northern teenagers are very conservative in their views about the death penalty, teenage mothers and asylum seekers.

Everyone must recycle. There will be plenty of bins in place for this to happen, like in the German system: instead of a rubbish bin, there will be 4 colour co-ordinated bins for waste, paper, glass and packaging.
Also, only one car per household unless you can prove a necessity for two, such as for people with walking difficulties/ wheelchairs. Public transport will be improved for this purpose.

Recycling will be compulsory, with fines for those who don't.
THe current council budgeting system will be revamped to just give each dept what they use, as they need it. Naturally limits will be applied to the maximum available - any dept needing more can request it with a valid reason.
The remainder of the unused funds - which I suspect may be a fair bit, will go back into improving public services and systems, increasing money given to pensioners, decreasing tax when possible.
Wages will be capped at a realistic amount within the government at first, then throughout industry as a whole. (I'm not saying give everyone an equal wage, just pay realistic money to the higher earners, rather than the stupid amounts they are on currently.) Any company execs found giving pay rises to their higher earners while adding frightening increases to customer charges will be penalised. Harshly.

I'd overturn the ban on riding a motorcycle or moped without a helmet, as it has no bearing on the safety of anyone except yourself.

The banning of 'political correctness'.
The ridiculous extremes of Health & Safety would be reduced.
Harsher penalties for anyone who breaks the law. Not death or anything, more like the sentences in America along the lines of years and years for stuff.

Overturning the ridiculous governmental assault on the motorist for b*llsh*t offences like doing 37 in a 30 zone, having a tail light out, or parking fines etc etc.
I guess wanting to strip the law down to cover purely the basics and rely on personal liberty and responsibility is too much of an ask, given that the majority of the public are idiots and want nannying and restricting through life.

Oh yes, killing someone using a car is classed as either manslaughter or murder, depending upon intent. I don't care whether you were drunk, speeding, whatever...you are getting more than 3 f*cking years.
Obvious, exceptions if it was a genuine accident.
I am sick and tired of speed induced and drunk-driving deaths being so pitifully punished. It's a deadly weapon, therefore handle it with care.
Also, speeding will be punished harsher.
People must retake their driving test every 5 years so as to lose the bad habits, however it will be cheaper to retake than doing the first test and money for this will go towards road maintainence, etc.
Fines and stuff will be based upon what you earn, it will be a strict percentage of your income.
I will set up a shelter for the homeless people in towns. This will be charity based, donations of food and clothing welcome. Homeless people will then have a chance to get clean, have an address for which to use to get a job, and get back on their feet. Residency here will be fixed length though. Some of the people will get paid to collect rubbish, sort out the gardens and stuff in town, etc.
Pedestrian crossings will have automatic spikes that will come up around the barriers when the green man comes on, so any c*nt trying to run a light will get spiked. However, this will be sensor operated by emergency vehicles, so if they are within half a mile of the crossing, the spikes will not come up.
Public transport has priority on roads.

The man who killed my grandfather through reckless driving last year got a £250 fine, so I agree with you there.
I'm also for the spike things, so long as you don't impale children on them and end up suing councils etc.
It'd be better to retake a test every 10 years, I think, as anyone who's like me and physically shook the whole way round will agree; and I think a proper medical examination should be included in the test. Like what HGV drivers have.

They will have some sort of safety barrier to stop actual humans getting hurt. They'll actually be at the bit where the cars are supposed to stop, so there should be plenty of room. Maybe bollards would be better, like those that stop cars from going in bus only zones.
OK, I'll compromise: once every ten years until the age of 60, then it's every 5 years, but you don't have to pay for it once you've retired.
